About DCPA

The District of Columbia Psychological Association (DCPA) is a local professional association for all fields of psychology. Each state has a psychological association and DCPA is the equivalent organization for DC.

MISSION and PURPOSE

The District of Columbia Psychological Association (DCPA) is a non-profit organization dedicatedf to advancing psychology as a science and a profession and as a name of promoting human welfare: by the encouragement of psychology in all its branches; by the promotion of research in psychology and improvement of research methods and conditions; by the improvement of the qualifications and usefulness of psychologists through high standards of professional ethics, conducts, education, and achievement; by the increase and diffusion of psychological knowledge through meetings, professional contacts, reports, papers, discussion, and publications, thereby to advance scientific interests and inquiry; and by the application of research findings to the promotion of public welfare. In addition, DCPA has developed a tax exempt Foundation (DCPF) to promote community education and the provision of pro bono services throughout our community.

What Else We Do?
DCPA is involved in many activities important to psychologists including

  • lobbying efforts for the profession
  • participating in licensure
  • conducting continuing education programs
  • establishing professional networking
  • distribution for a newsletter for the profession, and
  • establishments of a referral service.
